Hello, my name is Jan Lorne Prins and I’m proud to be the newest member of the Royal LePage Mid North Realty team. My goal is simple: to have a positive impact on the real estate market across St. Joseph Island, Sault Ste. Marie, and the North Shore.
Why this area?
Two reasons. First, I love it here—the landscape, the lifestyle, and above all, the people. Second, this place is in my blood. My family roots on my mother’s side trace back to the first settlers of Jocelyn Township in the 1880s. Though I grew up near Ottawa, I spent every summer—and many winters—on St. Joseph Island at my grandmother’s log cabin. Yes, a real log cabin (with electricity and running water, thankfully!). Those early years gave me what I consider one of the best childhoods imaginable.
That deep connection to the Island eventually led me to attend Sault College, where I graduated from the aviation technology program and earned my commercial pilot’s license. I spent the next several years flying for small airlines across Ontario before taking a job in the Netherlands to explore my roots on my father’s side. What was meant to be a short adventure turned into more than three decades abroad. I built a life, a family, and a successful career—first flying a 767 for a Dutch passenger airline, and then piloting 747s for a Luxembourg-based freight company.
But eventually, Northern Ontario called me home. Just before the pandemic, I purchased a small house on St. Joseph Island, and I’ve now made the full-time move back to the community that shaped me.
I’m excited to bring the skills I honed as an airline captain—teamwork, attention to detail, and a strong respect for procedures—into the real estate world. My focus is on helping others discover the same joy and opportunity I’ve found in this incredible corner of Northern Ontario.
